Night OUT at the Nationals

Team D C Presents Night Out at the NationalsOnce again, Federal GLOBE is proud to support Night OUT at the Nationals in June!

Night OUT at the Nationals is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year!  I am hoping that Lambda can join Federal GLOBE and other Federal Agency Chapters at Nationals Park on Tues, June 17th against the Houston Astros (7:05PM start time).  For two years running there have been 4,000+ fans in attendance in the Night OUT section.

Last year, the US Census Bureau’s GLOBE group brought 175 people to the game, the largest contingent of Feds ever at the game!

Tickets are available for $20  for Outfield Reserved seats and can be reserved by contacting me, Matt Lewis at x20443 or matt.lewis@uspto.gov. We will all be sitting together in one USPTO block of seats. The deadline for reserving your seats is May 28, 2014.

Just an FYI for next year…Organizations bringing at least 60 members qualify as All Star Partners, which brings along with it added benefits described at the bottom of www.teamdc.org/noan.  One of those perks would be getting Lambda’s name on the official Nellie’s Night OUT at the Nationals t-shirt as well as the Jumbotron at Nats Park!

Looking forward to seeing you OUT at the ballpark!

Nights of Science: a great event to bring your kids!

Update: Call for volunteers! If you are available and interested in helping local students learn about STEM careers, college admissions and more, please volunteer on Thursday, November 31st any time between 5:30 – 8:00 PM. Help is needed in the following areas:

  • Experiments: Experiments will have write ups that go along to guide the volunteers, so everything is completely explained. One person could volunteer to take the lead in each experiment. We will prepare a training kit that the lead volunteer can take to learn and then teach their volunteers. They will then lead the volunteers in the experiment on the night of the event. All these activities are really straightforward and need maybe a half-hour to read through to understand.
  • Information Table: Provide general information about the even and help with registration.
  • Speed Interviewing: Speed Interviews between professionals and students: Each person should have a different technical background.  If interested, please tell us a little about your background (science/engineering field/work experience). 1 person will keep time and make sure that students switch tables to talk to different people.
  • Guides: Help direct people and answer questions.
  • Contact SHPE for more info!

End of Fiscal Year BBQ

Photo of barbecue ribs on the grillThe National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) would like to collaborate with the other affinity groups at the PTO in organizing a barbecue.  The barbecue would be open to all of the participating affinity groups members and would serve to celebrate the end of the fiscal year. Mid-October was the time frame that we thought would be ideal for the event but, depending on the participants, the time frame can be changed. Are you interested in participating?
